Anytime Fitness Jumps the Ranks on Franchise Times 2019 Fast & Serious List

MINNEAPOLIS – Anytime Fitness, the world’s largest and fastest-growing fitness club chain, has been recognized as one of Franchise Times’ top forty Fast & Serious franchise brands. Coming off a strong year filled with impressive growth and a milestone Antarctica opening, Anytime Fitness jumped up five spots to be ranked No. 23. The brand is now one of only three to have made the cut every single year since the list’s inception in 2014.

The annual ranking is calculated based on a proprietary 10-point formula to narrow down the smartest-growing franchise brands based on franchise sales, unit growth and more. Anytime Fitness has always ranked in the top 75 percent, staking its claim as a constant industry leader.

In 2019 alone, Anytime Fitness surpassed its growth goals to open more than 400 gyms, making the brand the largest and fastest growing gym franchise 12 years in a row, with locations now on all seven continents. Since it began franchising in 2002, Anytime Fitness has become a household name and continues to rapidly grow – the brand signed nearly 500 new franchise agreements in the last 12 months.

“Being recognized for growth doesn’t just get our team excited, it gets us motivated - because we’re one step closer to our goal of helping as many people as possible prioritize their health and happiness,” said Chuck Runyon, co-founder and CEO of Anytime Fitness. “From working out in our first Antarctica gym with my fellow co-founder, Dave Mortensen, to seeing our membership base grow to more than four million people, 2019 has been an eventful year and we’re hopeful that next year will be even better.”

Boasting a strong year-over-year revenue increase at 19-percent, Anytime Fitness plans to add 50 U.S. gyms in Q1 of 2020 alone - with Alabama and New York selected as key targeted regions. Expanding its reach even further, recent deals in South Korea and South Africa will set the tone for a successful 2020.

The brand also moved closer to its ultimate goal of helping people improve their health and fitness in every corner of the world. In mid-December of 2019, co-founders Runyon and Mortensen were among the first to exercise at an Anytime Fitness gym in Antarctica. Opening a location in the coldest and windiest region of the world meant looking for a safe alternative to the traditional Anytime Fitness gym. So, the brand got creative and partnered with expedition explorer cruise line Antarctica21. With a gym onboard its newest ship, Magellan Explorer, Anytime Fitness is now the only franchise to have locations operating on all seven continents.

When members join one Anytime Fitness gym, they gain access to all 4,800 Anytime Fitness gyms worldwide, at no extra cost. Gyms are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and feature state-of-the-art strength training and cardio equipment, personal training sessions, and small group programs. Through support and guidance from trainers and staff, and encouragement from a community of members, Anytime Fitness aims to motivate individuals, no matter where they live or their physical fitness level.
