Pancheros Mexican Grill Launches Second Annual Queso Day Campaign

CORALVILLE, IOWA – In honor of National Queso Day, Pancheros Mexican Grill is carrying on its annual tradition of honoring loyalty with royalty and has announced the coronation of its 2020 Queso King.

To celebrate National Queso Day on Sept. 20, Pancheros is thanking all of their fans with free queso — and they have crowned the chain’s second annual Queso Cup winner.

“We hear all the time from our fans how much they love our queso; it’s how queso should taste” said Ryan Murrin, vice president of marketing and franchise development. “Our first National Free Queso Day was such a hit last year, that we immediately decided to bring it back in 2020. And now, more than ever, we feel like everyone could use a little gesture of gratitude back. We love our fans, and appreciate them sticking with us through a wild year.”

In order to be eligible for the promotion, queso enthusiasts must download the Pancheros app and create a loyalty member account by Sept. 20 in order to receive the free queso coupon, which can be redeemed anytime between Sept. 17 and Oct. 1.

The chain, widely known for its loyal customer base and fan-favorite queso, recently named Bismarck, North Dakota native Aaron Vallejo as this year’s Queso Cup winner. Bestowed annually upon Pancheros’ top queso consumer from across the country, Vallejo outpaced his 2019 predecessor’s record by more than 43 queso orders for an impressive total of 281 queso orders.

To congratulate Vallejo on his accomplishment and thank him for his continued loyalty, the Pancheros team organized a virtual Queso Cup coronation where they surprised him with the 2020 Queso Cup and free queso for a year.

“Pancheros is my absolute favorite and I want to thank the awesome employees at the Bismarck location who kept me coming back time and time again,” said Vallejo. “Last year, I declared it my goal to become this year’s Queso King and I did it. Now with free queso for a year, I’ll really be living like a king.”

About Pancheros

The beginning of Pancheros dates back to 1992 when Rodney Anderson opened the brand’s first restaurant in Iowa City, Iowa. Originally modeled after the Chicago taquerias that Anderson had visited often with his friends during his teenage years, the brand’s pursuit of constructing a better built burrito launched Pancheros into an evolution based on simplicity and fresh-pressed tortillas.

Since its humble beginnings, Pancheros has earned a loyal following for redefining the standards of modern burritos by using fresh-pressed tortillas and perfectly-mixed ingredients with the help of BOB the Tool, a unique plastic spatula used to carefully mix ingredients together to create the perfect taste in every bite.

Amid its popularity, the brand has successfully grown from its roots and today a robust franchising program has led to 69 restaurants, with more in development.
