Multi-Unit Franchisees Converge at First-Ever Regional Multi-Unit Franchisee Summit

MFV Expositions, the International Franchise Association and Franchise Update Media Host Exclusive, Educational Event in New York City for Multi-Unit Franchise Owners

August 7, 2014 – Providing a platform for growth-oriented multi-unit franchisees to network, learn and become inspired, the first-ever Regional Multi-Unit Franchisee Summit recently took place at The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.

The exclusive, educational event—hosted by Franchise Update Media, the International Franchise Association (IFA) and MFV Expositions—explored thought-provoking ideas and strategies that empower multi-unit franchisees and their teams to overcome obstacles in key areas of their franchise operations.

“It was amazing to watch both powerhouse and rookie multi-unit franchise owners come together to learn best practices from each other on expanding and managing their multi-unit franchise operations,” said Tom Portesy, president and CEO of MFV Expositions. “There was an undeniable energy and spirit in the room that all attendees carried back home with them.”

The regional summit provided a workshop-oriented environment that covered the following topics:

v Owning your market for optimal growth (trade area demographics);

v Real estate (lease negotiations and re-negotiation);

v Effective local marketing programs (local store marketing in urban areas);

v Delivering on your promises (outstanding customer service);

v Selecting and implementing additional brands;

v Building talent and infrastructure to meet growth demands; and

v Federal and state legislative threats to small business.

“The content for the Regional Multi-Unit Franchisee Summit was incredibly helpful,” said John Metz, multi-unit franchise owner of Denny’s, Dairy Queen and Marriott Hotels. “I’ll be back next year along with many of my franchisee friends.”

Held the day prior to the International Franchise Expo (IFE), one of the world’s largest franchise events, which took place June 19-21, the one-day event was a condensed, more localized version of Franchise Update Media’s Multi-Unit Franchising Conference in Las Vegas, which has quickly developed into a must-attend event in the franchising industry.

“It was an awe-inspiring experience – everyone was so involved and engaged throughout the entire day,” said Diane Phibbs, executive vice president of Franchise Update Media. “Our overall goal is to provide multi-unit franchisees with programs, tools and great content to help grow their businesses. That’s why we teamed with MFV and the IFA to create this regional summit as an extension of our existing conference. As a regional learning experience, multi-unit franchisees can take the opportunity to step away from their business for a day to re-focus and learn best practices without having to spend an arm and a leg on travel or be away from the business for too long.”

IFA’s Senior Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs, Matthew Haller, added, “Multi-unit franchisees face many unique challenges and hurdles that single-unit owners don’t typically encounter. Therefore, regional learning summits, such as this, are crucial in helping them overcome roadblocks and develop game-changing strategies to take their franchises to the next level.”
