ATLANTA – The Professional Athlete Franchise Initiative (PAFI) and the Off the Field Players’ Wives Association (OTF) have teamed up to host the annual nationwide Lunch and Learn Tour. Throughout the tour, wives of professional athletes will be given an opportunity to socialize with OTF members, while attaining knowledge in an array of topics including franchising. Beginning on October 8 at The Bureau in Chicago, the event will feature a Franchising 101 workshop, in addition to seminars on non-profit management, branding, etc.
“Off the Field is comprised of the talented and diverse wives of active and retired professional football players. When exploring off the field opportunities, our wives often play a tremendous role in helping us find the appropriate business venture,” stated Michael Stone, founder and executive director of PAFI. “With that, PAFI feels strongly about educating spouses of professional athletes on franchising opportunities and providing a clear understanding of how the franchise model works. We look forward to our collaboration with Off the Field and lending our educational support.”
Representing PAFI and discussing Franchising 101 at the Lunch & Learn event will be Dana Drew Shaw, an attorney with Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP which serves as a franchise law and education partner to PAFI. Married to former NBA player Casey Shaw, Dana has been surrounded by sports her entire life. Dana played collegiate professional basketball, and her father was the head basketball coach at Valparaiso for over 25 years. Beyond her career as an athlete, Dana has worked with athletes, coaches and administrators while also assisting sports-based organizations with strategic coaching for vision and planning. Further, Dana has worked for an advisor for a multinational company and drafted FIBA contracts for high level professional basketball players.
OFT is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization that strives to be a resource to its members and their communities. The purpose of Off the Field is to have an alliance of women within a network who are fully committed to collectively affecting change within themselves as well as their surrounding communities.
