BRIGHTON, Colo. (December 7, 2015) — Watermill Express—the nation’s largest drive-up, pure drinking water company—has co-founded Clean Water Here, a cause brand to promote sustainable alternatives for clean, affordable drinking water in the United States.
Research indicates that out-of-date plumbing—sometimes over 100 years old—is delivering water through pipes that often leach contaminants into the water. In addition, old-fashioned water treatment facilities may not always address 21st-century contaminants like pesticides, industrial chemicals and arsenic. The poorest and most vulnerable Americans are more likely to drink this water, sometimes leading to illness and disease.
“Many Americans are unaware that there are areas throughout the United States where low-income families are living with limited access to clean drinking water,” said Lani Dolifka, co-founder, CEO and President of Watermill Express. “Through forming Clean Water Here, we’re dedicated to educating the public about clean water and sustainable alternatives.”
To raise awareness of clean water both in the United States and globally, Clean Water Here is launching a 2016 campaign called “1 Gallon Here Gives 1 Gallon There.” As part of this campaign, every time someone purchases a gallon of water at a participating Watermill Express location, they will be informed that Watermill Express will donate a gallon of clean water on their behalf to a person in need in the developing world via World Vision.
World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization and the largest non-governmental provider of clean water in the developing world. The announcement of Watermill Express’ partnership was made at World Vision’s “Strong Women Strong World” event on December 4, 2015. At this event, World Vision also announced renowned philanthropic producer, David Clark would launch Water Now 2016 – a global clean water campaign in support of World Vision and UN-Water’s World Water Day.
Last year’s Water Now was the largest clean water social media campaign in history, generating a social media voice of more than 1 billion and featuring posts from celebrities and dignitaries. The public is encouraged to go to CauseFlash.org to lend their own social media voices to the global Water Now 2016 initiative, which again culminates on UN World Water Day (March 22, 2016).
